The ancient city of Jalna in Maharashtra has history dating back to the time of Lord Rama. It has seen the illustrious rule of many empires such as Mughal, Shinde and Nizam rule. It is located on the banks of river Kundalika and has a surprisingly large number of attractions. The many places to see in Jalna are lesser known in the commercial tourist circles. They range from temples of various religions to forts and even places of natural beauty. Here is a look at some of the top places to visit in Jalna.

Sri Ganesha of Rajur
Located at a distance of 25 km from Jalna city is the interesting Ganesha temple. As per local beliefs, the idol at the temple appeared by itself one day and since then turned the place into a temple with people coming here from across the region to seek blessings. The Ganesh Chaturthi festival sees a large influx of travellers visiting the temple.
Guru Ganesh Bhavan
The holy place of Jainism, the Guru Ganesh Bhavan is also known by the name Karnatak Kesari. The temple is maintained by the Shri Vardhaman Sthankwasi Jain Shravak Sangh trust. It is also popular for the schools, libraries and cattle shelter run by them.
The Jumma Masjid
A popular place to visit in Jalna is the Juma Masjid built in 1557A.D. by Jamshed Khan. The mosque has a rectangular shape with three sides closed and one side open as the arcade area. The structure as per Mughal architecture has an ornamented central dome, arched windows and lovely carvings.
Jalna Fort
Built in 1725, the Jalna fort is a popular tourist place in the city. The fort is quadrangular structure that consists of many galleries and chambers. A Persian inscription at the venue confirms the date the fort was built. The citadel built alongside the fort is now operational as the municipal office.
Ghanewadi Talab
A stellar example of genorosity is the Ghanewadi Talab in the city of Jalna. Built by the benevolent Mr.Bezonji Faridoonji Jalanawalla in 1931, he expenditure for the lake was born by the man himself. He did this so that the people of Jalna may have easy access to good water. Though it has been the primary source of water for the city, the current condition is in a state of destress and needs urgent conservation efforts.
There are many other tourist attractions around Jalna such as the famous Lonar Lake situated at a distance of 100 km from the city. In similar distance around Jalna, tourists can also visit the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, Aurangabad, etc.

How to Reach Jalna
By Road: Jalna has good road connectivity to all major destinations in the region. Frequent buses and taxis are available from various nearby cities to Jalna.
By Rail: The Jalna Railway Station has limited connectivity, however, the nearby Aurangabad station (62 km) connects Jalna to all major cities in the country.
By Air: Jalna does not have an airport, the nearest is Chikkalthana Airport in Aurangabad at a distance of 62 km. You can also try the Pune International Airport at a distance of 257 km.
