10 Fun Getaways for Children in Delhi

Delhi, the capital city of India is among the most popular tourist destinations in the country. It is renowned for its various historical and political monuments. There are plenty activities to keep the adults occupied, but what about the kids!? Delhi has many options of entertainment and education for children as well. They range from interesting museums to amusement parks, take a look at our pick of ten places to take your children in and around Delhi.

1. Children's Park at India Gate
One of the most iconic symbols of the city and the country is the India Gate, it also is a popular place for travellers and residents to explore. This is especially true for those with kids, because India Gate has adjoining ten acres of children's park. The place offers various amusements and you can also go boating at the India Gate. It is known to especially look beautiful at dusk.

2. Fun 'N' Food Village
Located on the bordering area of Delhi and Gurgaon, the Fun 'N' Food Village is a popular amusement park for children. The park has many amusement options such as various rides that include both land and water rides. The water park is known to have the largest and fastest water slide in the entire country. Various games and competitions are also held here. It's wholesome entertainment for the entire family.

3. Shankar's International Doll Museum
Your daughter will simply love this outing. Take her to Shankar's International Doll Museum that is located on the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and is home to hundreds of dolls from all across the world. The display is largely split into the European Dolls section and the Asian Dolls section. Special space is given for the various Indian dolls as well, of which over 150 are on display.

4. National Rail Museum
Every one of us have had a fascination for the wonderful creation that are trains! They come in various colours and they have lulled us to sleep one too many times with their chug-chug. Here is an opportunity to teach your kids and yourself more about trains. Over 100 display pieces that are both static items and working displays offer interaction in the most entertaining manner. There is even a toy train ride through the museum that your kids can enjoy!

5. The National Science Centre
A great option for kids above seven years is the National Science Centre that houses various galleries catering to information on science, technology, biology and physics. Take them here to help with the learning of how various technology work, learn more about life forms and origins and of course have fun along the way. The multimedia and 3D centre is sure to keep your kids busy!

6. National Zoological Park
The place was earlier called the Delhi Zoo and has been since re-christened as the National Zoological park. Spanning across an area of 176 acres, the park is home to a wide variety of animal, bird and reptile life. Located on Mathura Road in the city, the zoo is open on all days except Fridays. Take your little ones here and enjoy their faces lighting up with excitement as they catch glimpses of the various animals.

7. Kingdom of Dreams
Among the first commercial live entertainment centres in the country, the Kingdom of Dreams puts on display a vibrant and passionate performances such as Bollywood musicals called 'Zangoora' and even performances that are dedicated to legends of Indian entertainment such as the music maestro Kishore Kumar. The place also has designated 'gulleys' or streets for shopping and food.

8. Nehru Planetarium
Is it your child's dream to go to space, to be able to touch the stars and sit on the moon, well you can make their dreams come true (not really, but close enough!) at the Nehru Planetarium located in the Teen Murti house in Delhi. They have shows both in English (11:30 am and 3:00 pm) and Hindi (1:30 pm and 4:00 pm).

9. Adventure Island
The Metro Walk in Rohini Sector has many fun activities for children, this could be an ideal destination to head to this weekend with your little ones. The Adventure Island located here offers a variety of rides and food courts. You can also enjoy the small fountains located at the Metro Walk. Ideal place for children below 12 years.

10. Dilli Haat
Best suited for children who are older than eight years old, Dilli Haat is a cultural hot-spot in the city. The place organises many workshops, cultural programs and has many product and food stalls too. The activities range from mehendi application to hair braiding. Products are primarily colourful crafts from across the country. Children, especially your girls are sure to enjoy this place with all its colour and gaiety.
