The Ratanmahal Sloth bear Sanctuary is located near Sardar Sarovar Dam and is known to be a dangerous place if you opt to go alone or with just a person to accompany you. The sanctuary is home to sloth bears and other deadly animals like leopards, the palm civet, the Indian civet, four-horned antelope, langurs, etc. It is always advised to go in bigger groups with the guards guiding you.
Eleven villages surround the sanctuary with a population of around 7000. The sanctuary covers an area of 55.65sq.km. It is located in Dahod district in the state of Gujarat.
The sanctuary has plenty of dry teak forests and mixed deciduous forests too. The forest also has dry bamboo brakes in abundance. The sloth bears here feed on the mahuda trees which is also their favourite food.
Though it is risky to travel alone to this sanctuary, it is definitely a rewarding experience for those who love adventure. One should make sure that he travels only in large groups to this area.
