Kufri, located at an altitude of 2743 m, is a famous hill station and a small town at a distance of around 20 km from Shimla. This place got its name from the word ‘kufr’, which means ‘lake’ in the local language. This place witnesses tourists all around the year, owing to the many attractions associated with it. Kufri is connected to Shimla by a narrow gauge rail route while Kalka, located at a distance of 100 km from Kufri, connects Shimla to all the major cities of India. Tourists who wish to travel by road can avail of direct buses from Shimla, Narkanda, and Ranpur. Both, state transport buses and private deluxe buses are easily available from Shimla to Kufri.

The region of Kufri experiences a temperate climate during summer, which extends between the months of April and June. The temperature of the place ranges between 12° C and 19° C during this season. Kufri receives scanty rainfall during the monsoon season and the temperature may drop to as low as 10° C. Winters are extremely cold, and temperatures can fall below 0° C during this season. The period between March and November is considered ideal for visiting this place.
