Chowara is a fishing village, just six kilometers away from the Kovalam Beach. The village is situated on the southern side of Vizhinjam. Chowara is particularly famous for its pristine white sand beaches that stretch for many kilometers offering the tourists a lovely and delightful walking experience. Very close to the Chowara Beach is the Azhimalathura Beach that is again quite a long stretch.
Tourists have the option of exploring the village on foot or on scooters. Gearless scooters are available for hires.
The village boasts of the famous Ayyappa temple that is built on the top of a hill. The temple organizes a 56-day long festival every year starting from 15th November. The festival ends on 15th January. The temple enjoys immense popularity among the devotees of Lord Ayyappa and every year thousands of devotees throng the temple to participate in the festivities. The village is a mix of the traditional and the modern. One has to be there to experience this.
