4

Kumbalangi Integrated Tourism Village, a small island village located at a distance of about 15 km from the heart of Kochi, has gained worldwide attention due to its tourism development initiatives. The village is blessed with placid backwaters and is a perfect location for boat cruising and fishing activities.

The tourist and marine activities of the village gained great impetus since the establishment of the Kumbalangi Integrated Tourism Village Project. This project, the first of its kind in India, aimed at transforming Kumbalangi into a model fishing village as well as a tourist destination.

Travellers who visit this place get to enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding region as well as the unforgettable experience of backwater cruising. Visitors can also witness the fish farming, coir spinning and several other marine activities carried out in the island.

Backwater tours (that include day cruising and overnight cruising packages) and cultural programme packages are being organized by authorities as part of the project. The village can be visited any time of the year, though monsoons are best avoided.
