People living in Kondhwa-NIBM and Yewalewadi may get an elevated Metro line by 2030-31 if all required approvals are received on time. Pulgate. There will also be a separate spur line connecting NIBM to Undri.

New Corridor to be an Extension of Elevated Metro Line 3

The new corridor will be an extension of the 23km elevated Metro Line 3 being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) between Hinjewadi and Shivajinagar. While the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar stretch is being built under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, the extension toward Kondhwa and Yewalewadi will be constructed directly by Maha Metro, as decided by the state government.

Preparation of Detailed Project Report

Atul Gadgil, Director (Works) at Maha Metro, said that consultants have been appointed to prepare the detailed project report (DPR). Surveys and alignment planning are underway. The route is planned from Shivajinagar to the collectorate, then through Camp and Pulgate, and onward to Kondhwa and Yewalewadi. A spur line will branch off from Jyoti Square to NIBM junction and further to Undri near Bishop's School. Metro stations are likely to be placed at intervals of about 1km. The DPR is expected by May or June and will first be discussed by the Pune Municipal Corporation before being sent to the state and then the Centre for approval.

Demand for Metro Line

The demand for a Metro line in this fast-growing area has increased due to heavy traffic and rapid urban development. Local leaders and residents say better Metro connectivity and wider roads are urgently needed. Officials believe a dedicated Metro line will provide a long-term and sustainable transport solution for Pune's southern suburbs.
