Work is underway on the proposed Patna Water Metro project in Patna, Bihar. The first charging station for electric boats is being built at Gandhi Ghat, which will supply power to vessels on the first 10.5-km route in the project.

First Corridor of Water Metro
The first corridor of the Water Metro will run between Digha Ghat and Kangan Ghat. In the coming phases, similar charging stations will also be set up at both of these ghats to support the growing fleet of electric boats.
Patna Corridor to Connect Several Locations
During the first stage, the service will connect several important locations along the riverfront. Among these, Gandhi Ghat and Gayghat will act as major stops for passengers. The complete route is planned to begin at Kangan Ghat and pass through Gayghat, Gandhi Ghat, Digha Ghat, Farakka Mahto Ghat, Nariyal Ghat, Paanapur, Konhra Ghat, Kali Ghat in Sonpur, and Chechhar Ghat.
How will this Service Benefit Commuters?
According to the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Limited, the Water Metro system has been designed for future expansion. Authorities plan to develop four routes and around ten terminals as the project grows, connecting districts such as Vaishali and Saran with Patna through river transport. Officials believe the service will also strengthen the National Waterway 1 along the Ganga River. It is expected to provide an affordable, eco-friendly transport option for daily commuters and tourists visiting the riverfront.
The main boat planned for the network, called MV-Gomdhar Kunwar, is expected to cost more than ₹12 crore. Moreover, the Patna Water Metro project is estimated to cost around ₹908 crore.
