The holy city of Puri in Odisha is getting ready for one of the biggest spiritual festivals in India-the Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025. This sacred event begins with the Snana Purnima ceremony on June 11, 2025, when the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra are bathed with 108 pots of holy water inside the Jagannath Temple. This beautiful ritual marks the beginning of the grand celebrations.

A Time of Rest for the Deities
After the special bath, the deities are believed to fall slightly ill, and they do not appear in public for the next 15 days. This period is called Anasara, during which the idols rest and recover before they come out again during the Rath Yatra. Even though the deities are not seen during this time, the devotion of the people only grows stronger.
This year, the Rath Yatra will begin on June 27 and continue till July 5. The entire celebration is filled with meaningful rituals and traditions:

These beautifully decorated chariots are pulled by thousands of devotees through the streets of Puri. It is believed that pulling the chariot brings blessings and good fortune.
A Festival that Unites People
The Rath Yatra is not just a religious event-it is also a time when people from all over India and the world come together in celebration. Regardless of caste, creed, or nationality, everyone is welcome to take part in the rituals, sing devotional songs, and feel the joy of being close to the divine.
The highlight for many is watching the deities on the Snana Mandap (bathing platform) on Snana Purnima. It's a rare and emotional sight to see all three idols together, and for many devotees, it's the most awaited moment of the year.
As always, the Jagannath Rath Yatra continues to be one of the largest and most colorful spiritual events in the country, drawing hearts closer through faith, unity, and tradition.
