Passengers in several parts of Tamil Nadu will soon find it easier to travel by train after the central government approved new halts for some important express services in the state. This decision comes after many years of requests from residents and regular railway passengers who had been asking for

additional stops to make long-distance travel more convenient.
Train Travel in Tamil Nadu
Train travel is one of the most popular and widely used modes of transport in Tamil Nadu. Many people depend on trains to travel between districts for work, education, business, and religious visits. However, in several areas, major express trains did not stop at nearby stations. Because of this, passengers often had to travel far to reach bigger stations where these trains were available. This caused inconvenience, extra travel time, and additional expenses for many travellers.
Introduction of New Halts
To solve this problem, the Ministry of Railways has decided to introduce new halts for some express trains. After reviewing repeated requests from passengers and local representatives, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw approved additional stops for three important train services. These new halts are expected to help thousands of passengers by providing easier access to long-distance trains.
List of Trains to Benefit Passengers from Different Regions
According to the new plan, the Rameswaram-Ayodhya Express will now stop at Pudukkottai Railway Station. This will improve connectivity for passengers living in Pudukkottai and nearby areas. In another change, the Mettupalayam-Thoothukudi Express will now halt at Bothanur Railway Station, benefitting many travellers from the Coimbatore region. Moreover, the Chennai-Coimbatore Express will include a new stop at Thiruvallur Railway Station.
Railway Officials Opinions
Railway officials said these decisions were made after carefully studying the long-standing demands from passengers and local communities. The new train halts are expected to make travel more convenient, reduce the need for passengers to travel long distances to catch trains, and improve railway connectivity in several districts of Tamil Nadu.
