    Gorakhnath Temple

    Gorakhnath Temple is the most famous temple of Gorakhnath and is aptly located at the centre of the city. It is said that the temple was built at the spot where saint Gorakhnath meditated. The temple was built by his followers. The temple is a marvellous structure built over 52 acres of land. The main feature is the garbhagriha where saint Gorakhnath is portrayed as a manifestation of Lord Shiva. The pond next to the temple called Mansarovar is also a famous tourist site where visitors like to meditate or go for long boat rides.

    Beginning from 14th January, a month long Makar Sankranti Mela is organised here. The mela attracts several lakhs of pilgrims and tourists.

    Gita Press

    Gita Press is a famous press devoted solely to the publication of old Hindu texts and teachings from the Gita. It was established in the 1920s to promote the holy teachings of the Gita. Initially it was housed in a small rented room in Gorakhpur from where three machines and a handful of dedicated devotees regularly published the teachings from the book.

    The present form of the press was inaugurated by the first president of India in 1955. Positioned at a distance of 4 km from the main railway station, the Gita Press is easily accessible and is even today considered the best source of original texts and material pertaining to the Gita and Hindu holy books.
