Vazhachal Waterfalls, Athirapally

3

The Vazhachal Waterfall is located in the Sholayar ranges in the rain forests of Athirappilly. It is 5 km away from the Athirappilly waterfall and 36 km away from Chalakuddy forests. The picturesque beauty of the waterfall provides an escape to those who want to leave the stressful city life behind. Unlike its more striking sister Athirappilly Waterfalls, the Vazhachal Falls look like a faster paced river than a waterfall. The Vazhachal area is known to have a good riparian vegetation, which is well preserved and has a thousand varieties of living species inhabiting it.

While entering the area, there is a single ticket counter that caters to all the visiting tourists to the falls. This particular region is also known as an Important Bird Area and India’s Best Elephant Conservation effort. The water levels are low usually; but during the monsoons, the water rises and covers the area, making it look like a huge waterfall.
