Travel to the Wildlife City of Palamu

A lesser known tourist attractions in Jharkhand is Palamu. This region is teeming with wildlife and nature and also has a fort which is in ruins. The scenic beauty of the place is a treat for tourists.

It is a haven for wildlife and nature lovers, hikers, motorists and photographers. It is also a perfect place to go camping.Here is a guide to the places you should visit in Palamu.

Betla National Park

A must visit place in Palamu is the Betla National Park, which is located in the western part of the Chotanagar Plateau in Jharkhand. It is one of India's oldest wildlife parks and is rich in wildlife and nature. You can see animals like Elephants, Panther, Sambhar, Nilgai, Kakar, Deer, Sloth Bear and Wild Bear here. It is a paradise for birdwatchers, who get to see the Peacock here . You can roam this place by a Safari Jeep.

Palamau Tiger Reserve

A major tourist attraction in Palamu is the Palamau Tiger Reserve, which is one of the oldest reserves in the country and the only tiger reserve in the state of Jharkhand. Although the population of these majestic beasts are few in numbers, the reserve is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts who come here to catch a glimpse of the endangered animal. The reserve also houses other animals namely elephant, leopard, Gaur, Sambar and wild dogs.

Palamu Forts

Another place to visit in Palamu are the Palamu Forts. The two forts sport Islamic architecture and is located close to one another. The forts were built by the Chero Dynasty kings, who used them as a defensive barrier against their enemies. You can visit these forts and admire the beauty of the place.

How to Reach Palamu

By Air: Ranchi is the nearest airport to Palamu and is located 186 km from the place. It is well connected to all the major cities in India.

By Train: Daltongunj is the nearest railway station located at a distance of 17.6 km from Palamu. Ranchi is the second nearest railway station at a distance of 186 km from the city. Both these rail heads are well connected with the other major cities in India.

By Road: Palamu is well connected by roads. There are regular buses available from the nearby cities which you can take to reach here.
