Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is working on several important Metro projects in the city. The Pink Line is being prepared for a possible August 15, 2026 launch, while work on the Blue Line airport connection and additional Green Line trains is also progressing.
Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line to be Launched on 15 August
The immediate focus is the 7.5-km elevated section of the Pink Line between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere. The section will have six stations. BMRCL is targeting August 15 for commissioning, but the opening will depend on the completion of safety checks and required approvals.
Before passenger services can begin, the Pink Line must receive an interim speed certificate from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). The trains also need to undergo inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CMRS). Trial runs and final checks of signalling, telecommunications and other safety systems must also be completed.
BMRCL has received eight trainsets for the Pink Line. Around three to four trainsets are expected to be used when the elevated section begins operations. However, the new trains must complete mandatory inspections before carrying passengers. The remaining underground part of the Pink Line, between Dairy Circle and Nagawara, is 13.76 km long and will have 12 underground stations. It is targeted for completion by March 2027. Once completed, the entire Pink Line will cover 21.25 km.
Bengaluru Metro's Blue Line
Meanwhile, BMRCL is also speeding up the 58-km Blue Line, which will connect Silk Board with Kempegowda International Airport. Trial runs on the KR Pura-HSR Layout section are expected to begin by October 2026. The airport section is targeted for completion by December 2027.
The Green Line is also set to receive additional trainsets. Technical inspections and integration checks are being carried out before the trains receive clearance for passenger operations. BMRCL has also received in-principle Railway Board approval for the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system for both the Pink and Blue lines. The system is expected to support efficient and high-frequency Metro operations.
