Birla family is originally from Rajasthan, and many members of this family have made tremendous contribution to the country. In the post-Mughal era, there were no prominent Hindu temples in Delhi or Kolkata. So, it was Birla family who built beautiful Hindu temples and brought a uniqueness to structures.

Apart from it being one of the beautiful temples, the Lakshmi Narayan Temple was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in Delhi. It was built by Baldeo Das Birla and Jugal Kishore Birla. Hence, it is also known as Birla Temple. The shrine is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lakshmi. There are also other temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Hanuman. Today, Lakshmi Narayan Temple is one of the major landmarks in Delhi.
