Tumkur is a land of picturesque lakes and huge hills. With many hill temples, Tumkur is high on the lift of tourist attractions too! It could be considered a trekker's paradise in fact. Tumkur is only 70 km to the Northwest of Bangalore and there are many trekking trails that you could cover in a day. Some people however like exploring these trails during night time when the moon is watching guard.

The most favourite of all trekking trails in Tumkur should be the one at Madhugiri, meaning honey hill. It is an experience as sweet as honey. It has the largest monolith in Asia and the second largest in the entire world. There's a blackbuck sanctuary located nearby and the beautiful Madhugiri fort at the foot of the hill will transport you to yesteryears!

Devarayanadurga is one of the most explored hills in Tumkur. This holy hill has two temples, one on the lower hill and the other on the upper hill. The temples are built in Dravidian style of architecture. Start early to see the beautiful rising sun across the land far off. Along this green trail and rocky hills, you should visit Namada Chalume, a deer park. This place is also the place of origin of Jayamangali River.

Looks like Siddarabetta has set spirituality afloat in the minds of youth. Youngsters love this hill. "Siddaru" meaning "holy men" numbering close to 9000 are said to have meditated on the hills and hence the name. Siddarabetta is close to Devarayanadurga and has temples and caves atop the hill. Many medicial herbs are said to be growing on the hill. A natural spring here is also tested to have great medicinal value. Visitors planning this trek need to take a bus to Koratagere and then take a local transport to the foot of the hill.

Shivagange is another place you must explore. The talling peak of the hill is too inviting not to set foot. Shivagange is only 54 km from Bangalore. You could take a morning train from Bangalore and get down at Dabaspet. Trek atop the hill that looks like a Shivalinga. There's spring that flows from the hill, hence giving it the name Shivagange. It is also known as Dakshina Kashi and a favourite among college students in Bangalore and Tumkur.

Located close to Kyadsandra, Siddagange should be next on your list. The Siddagange Math has made a mark globally and hence, the temple hill is more of a pilgrim trek plus a lot of fun. The hill is actually right next to the temple and is called Ramadevara Betta.

Nijagal Betta has another trekking trail for you. Nijagal Betta and Siddagange could be covered in a single day depending on your energy levels and speed.

All in all, Tumkur is one of the hotspots for adventure treks in Karnataka. You don't have to think too far for your weekend outing. These trekking trails should suffice your urge to explore and enjoy.
