The upcoming Gandhi Jayanti is expected to bring two new train services for passengers, daily commuters, and traders in South Gujarat, as the Railway Board has approved a new semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express between Surat and Udaipur in Rajasthan, along with a new daily MEMU service between Valsad and Surat.
Although the railway administration has not officially announced the services yet, preparations are underway to launch both trains from Surat on October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. The services are likely to operate regularly from October 3.
Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express
The Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express, Train No. 20903/20904, is expected to boost trade and tourism between Surat and Rajasthan. The train will operate with an 8-coach rake and run six days a week, remaining closed on Tuesdays.
Train No. 20903 will depart from Surat at 6.10 am and reach Udaipur at 3.35 pm. On the return journey, Train No. 20904 will leave Udaipur City at 11.00 pm and reach Surat the following day.
The train will have commercial stoppages in both directions at Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Mahisagar, Asarwa, Himmatnagar, Shamlaji Road, Dungarpur and Javera. Primary maintenance will be carried out at Udaipur, while watering facilities will be available at Vadodara and Asarwa.
Valsad-Surat MEMU Train to Meet Long-standing Demand
The Railways has also decided to introduce Train No. 90178 Valsad-Surat daily MEMU from October 2, addressing a long-standing demand among passengers travelling across South Gujarat's industrial belt. The train's rake will be linked with Train No. 69139 Borivali-Valsad MEMU, while primary maintenance will be carried out at Vadodara. The new MEMU will depart from Valsad at 1.20 pm and reach Surat at 4.40 pm.
On its way, the train will stop at Dungri, Joravasan, Bilimora, Amalsad, Ancheli, Vedchha, Gandhi Smriti, Navsari, Maroli, Sachin, Bhestan and Udhna.
The new service is expected to provide a faster and more affordable travel option for employees, students and artisans in South Gujarat. The local railway administration has begun preparations for the inauguration scheduled for October 2.
