Navratri Utsav: Celebrations at Vaishno Devi Temple

By Siji Mohan

Vaishno Devi Temple or Vaishno Devi Mandir located in Katra in Jammu & Kashmir, is one of the temples that celebrate Navratri in all its grandeur. Here Navratri is celebrated twice, Chaitra Navratra before the start of summer and Shardiya Navratra at the beginning of winter.

Devotees from various parts of the country flock in to take part in the grand festivities that last 9 days, and to take the blessings of Vaishno Devi, the presiding deity at the temple.

During the first three days of Navratri, the goddess is worshipped as Kali or the goddess who destroys all evil and impurities. The next three days are dedicated to Lakshmi, who is the goddess of wealth. The final three days of Navratri are to seek blessings from goddess Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom.
