The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a monsoon alert for the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, predicting heavy to moderate rainfall for the next five days (from 20th June to 25th June).

In the meantime, Chennai and the surrounding areas are anticipated to have mild to moderate rain with lightning and thunderstorms over the next 48 hours.
The cyclonic circulation over Southwest as well as the adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast is currently located between 0.9 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestward with height, according to the most recent bulletin from the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Chennai.
The monsoon is a crucial weather phenomenon in India, as it brings much-needed rainfall to replenish water bodies, nourish crops, and alleviate the heat and humidity of the summer months. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, located on the southeastern coast of India, are no exception to this dependence on the monsoon.

Additionally, isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, including the Thiravallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts, are likely to experience moderate thunderstorms and lightning along with moderate rain. In low-lying places, rain can cause water logging and traffic backups.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Biparjoy's effects led to a week-long delay in the start of the monsoon in Kerala. With Rajasthan as its focal point, Biparjoy has now weakened into a depression. Heavy rain is anticipated in some areas of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, & Madhya Pradesh through Wednesday as the cyclone continues to decrease.

Accurate forecasting has become even more crucial in recent years due to unpredictable monsoon patterns brought on by climate change. Farmers, government organizations, and the general people can use this information to plan their activities and make wise decisions about their safety.
To deal with the difficulties brought on by heavy rain, it also calls for readiness and resiliency. Everyone must be informed about the most recent weather forecasts as the monsoon intensifies and adhere to any directions issued by local authorities.
