Vidhana Soudha Open for Public Now

A historic decision for public engagement

The guided tours will give visitors a chance to understand the working of Karnataka's legislative system while enjoying the beauty of its stunning architecture. Visitors can join the tours on Sundays, and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Each tour day will allow up to 300 people, divided into smaller groups of 30 for smooth movement.

Tours will run from 8 am to 5 pm and will be conducted in both Kannada and English. The ticket costs only Rs 50 per person. However, for students up to Class 10 or below 15 years of age, the tour is free. They will need to register in advance.

A glimpse into history and architecture

Vidhana Soudha is not just a government building. It is a symbol of Karnataka's cultural and political strength. Tour guide Septhar shared that the building was designed by Kengal Hanumanthaiah, who wanted it to represent Indian identity and break away from British colonial designs. Today, Vidhana Soudha stands as one of the finest examples of Indian architecture, showcasing traditional Indian styles with tall columns, wide staircases, domes, and detailed carvings.

During the tour, visitors can expect to see:

  • The grand central hall where important meetings and decisions take place
  • The Legislative Assembly and Council chambers
  • Ornate wooden and stone interiors with traditional motifs
  • Historical displays and portraits of leaders who helped build the state
  • Long corridors that echo stories of Karnataka's political journey

This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to connect with the history of Karnataka and understand how democracy works from the inside.

Special entry rules for a smooth experience

To enter the premises, visitors must carry a physical copy of their original Aadhaar card. School students must show a valid school ID along with Aadhaar, while foreign nationals need to carry their original passport. These steps are to make the entry process secure and smooth.

The building will not be open for tours on days when the Legislative Assembly or Council is in session, or when there are important security advisories.

Another important rule is that single-use plastics are not allowed inside the building. This step is being taken to protect the environment and preserve the beauty of the site.

Leaders support the move

During the launch, Speaker UT Khader said that this is a very unique step that will help people learn more about their state and its democratic structure. "This is a unique initiative where the citizens can immerse themselves in the rich legacy of the state's democratic heritage," he said.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil also appreciated the move, saying, "Vidhana Soudha is the very heart of our democracy. By opening its halls and corridors for guided walks, we are giving the public a chance to witness history, architecture, and governance."

How to book a tour

Anyone who wants to be a part of this wonderful experience can book tickets online through the official website of Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC).

This new initiative is a big step towards bringing people closer to the functioning of their government. It allows citizens to learn more about how the state is run and appreciate the architectural beauty of the Vidhana Soudha. For many, it will be a chance to witness history up close and feel more connected to their state's rich democratic and cultural heritage.
