The safety inspection of Bengaluru's new Pink Line Metro trains is expected to take place from August 12 to 14 as the city's metro network nears the launch of the new corridor. The inspection will be carried out by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), which is an important step before the new trains can be introduced for passenger services to ensure that they meet the required safety standards.
Bengaluru Metro's Pink Line Inspection
The inspection is expected to cover trains planned for Bengaluru's Pink and Green Metro lines. For the Pink Line, the safety clearance is particularly important as the elevated section is nearing the final stages before opening to commuters.
The Pink Line connects Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara and is being developed in phases. The elevated portion between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere is expected to be opened first. It has already undergone safety-related trials by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO). The trains were tested for factors such as speed, braking and overall performance before the safety certificate was issued.
The Pink Line is an important addition to Bengaluru's Metro network as it will improve connectivity in southern and central parts of the city. Once operational, the corridor will provide better access to areas along Bannerghatta Road and connect with other Metro lines.
Bengaluru Metro's Green Line Inspection
The inspection is also significant for the Green Line. Bengaluru Metro is expected to induct three new six-coach trainsets on the Green Line. These trains are being manufactured by CRRC-Titagarh Rail Systems and are expected to help increase capacity and reduce overcrowding on the busy corridor.
The additional trains are likely to provide some relief to passengers who frequently face crowded coaches, especially during peak hours.
