Uttarakhand Introduces Health App For Char Dham Yatra Pilgrims

Uttarakhand partners with WISH to launch the e-Swasthya Dham app, enhancing health and safety for Char Dham Yatra pilgrims amid rising health concerns.

In a recent update on the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, reports indicate that 29 pilgrims have lost their lives within the last ten days, primarily due to heart-related ailments and challenging weather conditions encountered in the high-altitude areas. This alarming situation has prompted the Uttarakhand Government, in collaboration with the Wadhwani Initiative for Sustainable Healthcare (WISH), to launch an innovative health care service called the "e-Swasthya Dham" app. This initiative aims to enhance the health and safety of pilgrims journeying to the holy sites of Badrinath, Yamunotri, Gangotri, and Kedarnath.

The unfortunate deaths included individuals like Shashi Kant from Surat, who suffered cardiac arrest at the Badrinath temple, and Kamlesh Bhai Patel from Gujarat, who became ill en route to Yamunotri. The Kedarnath temple alone witnessed six deaths in a single day, contributing to a total of 12 deaths at this site. These incidents underscore the health risks associated with the high-altitude pilgrimage.

Introducing E-Swasthya Dham App

The "e-Swasthya Dham" app is designed to integrate with the Char Dham registration portal, allowing pilgrims to access their medical history easily through their ABHA ID. This ensures quick retrieval of crucial health information when necessary. Devotees are required to upload their medical records onto the app, where on-site health screenings are provided by professionals from the health department and the Hans and Wish Foundation.

Health Screenings for Older Pilgrims

In response to these health concerns, the Uttarakhand Government has made health screenings mandatory for pilgrims above the age of 50. The Chief Secretary emphasized that accurately recording medical history at the time of registration would enable better emergency care and efficient management of medical resources. The e-Swasthya Dham app is set to be constantly updated for smooth access to essential health information, thereby reducing the risk of technical issues.

Pilgrims planning to undertake the Char Dham Yatra are encouraged to register and upload their medical details on the e-Swasthya Dham app through "https://eswasthyadham.uk.gov.in". This step is crucial for ensuring their safety and well-being during the pilgrimage, as it facilitates immediate access to medical records in case of health emergencies.

This initiative by the Uttarakhand Government and WISH to prioritize the health of Char Dham Yatra pilgrims through the introduction of the "e-Swasthya Dham" app reflects a significant move towards enhancing the pilgrimage experience. It acknowledges the challenges faced by devotees and aims to provide them with a safer and more secure spiritual journey.
