A Gurudwara named Hemkund Sahib is situated at the highest altitude, 15,000 feet above ocean level and is beautifully located near the famous Valley of Flowers in Uttarakhand. Hemkund, a glacial lake next to the Gurudwara that means "Lake of Snow," is where this sacred shrine gets its name.
Guru Govind Singh, the 10th guru of the Sikhs, is said to have pondered along the banks of this lake, according to the sacred Granth Sahib. The Hemkund Sahib Yatra is an extremely challenging but beautiful holy pilgrimage. Due to the shrine's elevation of 15,000 feet above ocean level and the lack of oxygen and high air pressure, the 6-kilometer Hemkund Sahib journey is challenging.
