Metro Rail users in Hyderabad are perplexed about whether the state government will be able to manage the Metro efficiently after taking it over from L&T. Many commuters feel that this decision may not be a good move, especially regarding maintenance and fare control. Anushka Nath, a daily commuter, said

she hopes the quality of service remains the same but fears that ticket prices will go up once the government takes charge. She added that proper management will be key to keeping the system running smoothly. Another frequent rider, Ibrahim Ali, said he was surprised by the news. He travels by Metro every day and feels Hyderabad's Metro has been one of the best-maintained systems compared to other cities. Now, he is unsure about its future services and believes passengers will have to wait and watch.
Major Concerns Regarding the Metro Takeover
Last year, the Metro recorded over 5.6 lakh daily passengers during peak times, emphasizing its significance to the city. Activist Sai Teja pointed out that L&T still owes between ₹2,000 and ₹5,000 crore to the government and questioned whether the state would be able to run the system efficiently, especially since the Metro was originally built under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. He said that projects run with private partnership often perform better than those fully controlled by the government. He fears that cleanliness and maintenance standards might drop if the Metro becomes fully government-run.
The Telangana government announced on Thursday that it would officially take over Metro Rail Phase 1 from L&T. The decision was made in a meeting led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with company representatives. While the move aims to bring the Metro fully under public control, many users remain cautious about what lies ahead.
