Kolkata Metro will operate 438 services on August 15 as part of its special Independence Day schedule. The changes have been made to manage passenger movement while maintaining connectivity across the city.
Kolkata Metro's Operations
The Blue Line, which is part of India's oldest Metro network, will operate 194 services on the day. This will include 97 trains in each direction. The Green Line will run 148 services, with 74 trains operating in each direction.
The Yellow Line will operate 92 services as usual. However, there will be a small change in its direct services. Four direct trains will operate between Jai Hind Bimanbandar and Sahid Khudiram, compared with the usual five services.
According to Metro Railway, services on the Purple Line will continue normally on August 15. However, there will be no Metro running on the Orange Line.
No Changes in Kolkata Metro's First & Last Train Timings
Despite the changes in the number of services, there will be no change in the first and last train timings. A senior Kolkata Metro official said the first Metro services will start at 6 am from the terminal stations. The regular timings for the last services will also remain unchanged.
Kolkata Metro's Revised Rules for Commuters & Metro Employees
Meanwhile, Kolkata Metro has revised its rules regarding drunkenness and nuisance on Metro premises. The changes have been made under Section 10 of the Calcutta Metro Railway (Operation and Maintenance Temporary Provisions) Act, 1985.
Under the revised rules, a person who is intoxicated and behaves in a way that causes inconvenience or annoyance to other passengers can be removed from the Metro premises. Their Metro pass or ticket may also be cancelled. Such a person can face imprisonment of up to 24 hours, a fine of up to Rs 1,000, or both.
The rules also apply to Metro employees. If an employee is found intoxicated while on duty and their condition could put passenger safety at risk, they may face imprisonment of up to one year, a fine, or both.
Passengers travelling on August 15 are advised to plan their journeys according to the revised service schedule.
