Pune is set to improve its road infrastructure with a new double-decker flyover in Kothrud. This project follows the success of similar flyovers at Nal Stop and Pune University and aims to reduce traffic congestion on Paud Road. The road is an important route for Pune's western regions, connecting them to the Pune-Mumbai Highway.

The proposed flyover will be 700 meters long, running from the garbage depot to Lohia Information Technology Park in Bhusari Colony. The project is estimated to cost ₹85 crore and has been proposed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro). A draft design has been submitted to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and is awaiting approval before construction begins.
Traffic Relief for Kothrud Residents
Kothrud has been dealing with heavy traffic, especially during peak hours. Paud Road has multiple signals, which slow down vehicle movement. The new flyover is expected to solve these problems by providing a smooth and fast route for daily commuters.
The Nal Stop flyover has already made travel easier by helping vehicles move from Law College Road and Mhatre Bridge to Karve Road without much delay. A similar improvement is expected with the new flyover in Kothrud.
Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole recently announced that the Pune University Road flyover section from Bremen Circle to E-Square will open for traffic on May 1. This will further improve the city's road network and reduce traffic problems. However, the ongoing construction of the Pune University flyover and Pune Metro's Line 3 has caused traffic disruptions in the city.
Upcoming Infrastructure Developments
The new flyover in Kothrud is part of a larger plan to improve Pune's transportation system. As the city continues to grow, such projects are necessary to manage increasing traffic and improve connectivity.
Maha-Metro is playing a key role in developing urban transport in Pune. By working with local authorities like PMC, they aim to create efficient infrastructure solutions to meet the needs of the city's growing population.
The new double-decker flyover in Kothrud will bring much-needed relief for residents and commuters. Once completed, it will reduce congestion, save travel time, and improve the overall traffic flow in the region. With careful planning and execution, this project is expected to make travel smoother and more convenient for the people of Pune.
