PM Modi to Inaugurate 103 Amrit Stations

PM Modi shares excitement ahead of the launch

Ahead of the launch, PM Modi shared his excitement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, "Tomorrow, 22nd May is a landmark day for India's railway infrastructure. The Amrit Stations will boost comfort, connectivity and celebrate our glorious culture!"

This statement shows the importance of the scheme not only for improving transport but also for showcasing India's traditions and regional designs.

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and its goal

The redevelopment is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABBS), which aims to modernize over 1,300 railway stations in India. The goal is to make stations more passenger-friendly while preserving regional architecture. The upgraded stations now include better facilities, sustainable practices, and accessibility features for all, including Divyangjan (persons with disabilities).

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also shared his views and praised the Prime Minister's vision for redeveloping stations. In his post, he said, "Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi!" This means both development and heritage will be preserved together.

Karnataka to benefit with five upgraded stations

Among the 18 states, Karnataka will see five of its stations upgraded: Munirabad, Bagalkot, Gadag, Gokak Road, and Dharwad. These stations have received special attention to meet the growing needs of passengers.

One of the highlights is Gadag Railway Station, a key junction in north Karnataka. It has been redeveloped at a cost of Rs 23.24 crore. The station now has a modern layout with separate entry and exit points, better parking, upgraded platforms with new shelters, and Divyangjan-friendly features.

Other major upgrades in Karnataka

Munirabad Railway Station, located in Koppal district and close to Hampi (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), has been upgraded at a cost of Rs 18.40 crore. It acts as a major link between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The station now includes a wide foot over bridge, improved signage, and better passenger services.

Dharwad Railway Station is another important station that has been redeveloped at a cost of Rs 17.1 crore. The upgrades include a new entrance, wide foot over bridge, improved accessibility with lifts, and better toilets. These changes are designed to make travel easier and more comfortable for all passengers.

Better travel experience across India

The redevelopment is not limited only to Karnataka. All 103 Amrit Stations across the country have been upgraded to improve the travel experience. New train classes like 3E (three-tier economy) and Vistadome coaches are also part of the improvement plan, offering more travel choices to passengers.

These stations now provide a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable environment for travellers. The designs reflect local culture, and new technology has been used to ensure sustainability for the future.

A step towards a better railway future

This massive redevelopment project marks a big step in India's railway transformation. The upgraded stations are more than just travel points-they are symbols of development, culture, and care for passengers.

With the inauguration of these 103 Amrit Stations, the government hopes to make Indian Railways more modern, inclusive, and culturally connected. The focus is not only on faster travel but also on creating stations that people feel proud of.

As India continues to grow, such efforts will help strengthen the country's infrastructure and bring railway services closer to global standards.
