Travellers to Mizoram and Barak Valley face cancellations today, September 10. Northeast Frontier Railway is restoring the Jamira–Bairabi section. Seven trips across September 10–11 are cancelled or curtailed. Some long-distance trains begin or end at Hailakandi. Expect fewer options towards Sairang, Bairabi and Silchar until repairs stabilise. Plan backup road travel where possible.
Heavy rain on September 3 triggered soil erosion near the track. NFR noted the stretch was “affected by soil erosion near the tracks.” Engineers estimate about 70 metres were compromised. Restoration may take eight to ten days, officials indicated.

Jamira–Bairabi restoration: road alternatives and bus timings
With rail movement to Mizoram restricted, roads remain the quickest fallback. Silchar–Aizawl buses typically take about six hours, with online bookings available. Taxis or shared cabs between Silchar and Bairabi need under two hours. Indicative fares are around ₹1,100–1,700. Use NH 306 via Hailakandi and Katakhal, subject to weather checks.
Refund and TDR rules for cancelled or curtailed trains
For cancelled e-tickets, refunds credit automatically to the original account. For short-terminated or partially cancelled journeys, file a Ticket Deposit Receipt online. Do this within seventy-two hours of the scheduled destination’s arrival. Counter tickets may be refunded at PRS counters or via 139. Carry screenshots and station certificates to support claims.
Tomorrow, September 11, more curtailments continue. They include 13126’s short-origin from Hailakandi and 15609’s short-termination. Expect intermittent changes through next week as repairs proceed in difficult terrain. Check NTES, call 139, and consider early buses or reserved cabs. Allow generous buffers at connections.
