Kolkata has received another consignment of metro coaches from China, giving a boost to the city's metro expansion. On Tuesday, a ship named MV Spring Shine docked at Netaji Subhas Dock of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMPK) with 16 new metro coaches and spare parts on board. These coaches are

expected to meet the rising demand of the metro commuters in Kolkata after the three sections were made functional last month. M/s T.P. Roy Choudhury has handled and managed the coaches, and once the process is complete, the coaches will be moved directly through the railway tracks of the Kolkata Dock System for induction into the Metro Railway fleet.
Benefits of New Metro Coaches for Kolkata Commuters
SMPK chairman Rathendra Raman stated that the arrival of these coaches is more than just a routine port activity. According to him, it reflects the country's determination to modernize infrastructure and build a highly developed India. He also highlighted the significant role Kolkata Metro has played in the city's development. He congratulated Metro Railway, Kolkata, and praised the SMPK team and trade partners for their efficient work in consignment handling. The Kolkata Dock System has managed the arrival of 48 metro coaches manufactured by Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Company in China, so far. These have been brought in by ships such as MV Spring Shine, Spring Mota, and Galaxy Glory from Dalian Port. After unloading, the coaches are directly placed on railway tracks at the dock and moved by locomotives for further use.
Moreover, these new Dalian-made coaches are expected to strengthen Kolkata Metro's capacity further, supporting its ongoing expansion and improving services for daily commuters.
