Heavy monsoon rain caused serious disruption across Mumbai on Wednesday, flooding many low-lying areas and affecting train services. Places such as Dadar, Parel, Kurla, Sion, Matunga, Byculla, and Chinchpokli saw heavy waterlogging, making travel difficult for commuters. Several roads were flooded, and in some places, vehicles were stranded as water levels rose quickly.

Mumbai Suburban Trains have been affected
The rain also hit Mumbai's suburban railway network, which is the city's main lifeline. Local train services on the Central Railway were disrupted because water accumulated on the tracks between CSMT and Byculla. Harbour Line services were also affected, leading to delays and inconvenience for thousands of passengers trying to reach work or return home. The situation once again showed how even a few hours of heavy rain can slow down Mumbai's transport system.
Urge to Prevent Monsoon Issues
Amid the chaos, Shiv Sena MLC Manisha Kayande wrote to Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde, urging immediate action to prevent such yearly monsoon problems. She asked the civic administration to take stronger steps to improve drainage in flood-prone areas and ensure that roads and railway stations remain functional during heavy rains. Kayande stressed that Mumbaikars should not have to suffer the same problems every monsoon, especially after repeated claims of monsoon preparedness by the authorities.
The flooding has again raised questions over Mumbai's monsoon planning and drainage system. Every year, residents face waterlogged roads, delayed trains, and traffic jams during the rainy season. Even though the civic body says desilting and other flood-prevention work have been done before the monsoon, the first major showers often expose weak spots in the city's infrastructure. With more rain expected, commuters may continue to face travel trouble in the coming days.
