Commuters in Gurugram are facing heavy traffic jams due to the ongoing traffic trial for metro construction between Millennium City Centre and Kanhai T-point. The congestion has worsened, and vehicle queues now stretch all the way to the underpass near the GMDA office in Sector 44, people reported on Tuesday.

According to officials, this traffic trial will continue until a final traffic management plan is created. The authorities will observe the current situation and make improvements based on feedback.
Blockage of Lanes Due to Metro Pillar Construction
To build metro pillars, Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has blocked one lane on both sides of the road after digging piles along the central verge from Millennium City Centre towards Subhash Chowk. However, closing even a small portion of the road has significantly slowed traffic. The Kanhai T-point, which is already a traffic signal and is a major crossing, is now experiencing long delays, especially during office hours.
Issues Faced by Commuters
Deepak Kumar, an employee in Sector 44, stated that only two lanes are now open for vehicles, which is causing frequent traffic jams. He explained that the jam extends from Kanhai T-point up to the L-shaped underpass near Millennium City Centre, and the situation worsens during peak hours. Many GMDA staff members who use the same route daily agreed that the congestion has become unbearable since the barricades were put up. One official said he now avoids the Kanhai Road altogether and instead uses an internal road via Z Chowk near Fortis Hospital to reach Sector 56. He warned that things would get even worse if the entire stretch is barricaded.
Commuters also pointed out that the design of the underpass exit adds to the problem. The underpass has only two lanes, but it connects to a three-lane road where one lane is closed due to construction, forcing multiple streams of vehicles to merge into a narrow space and creating long delays.
