Kolkata's Green Line metro services were disrupted on Thursday, during the busy morning hours at 10:30 am, and lasted for about 30 minutes. Following this, Metro Railway announced plans to invite bids for an annual maintenance contract (AMC) to check the signal and telecommunication (S&T) system of the East-West Metro,

Green Line, for the very first time. A similar issue occurred on Wednesday around 10:35 am when services stopped due to "communication loss" in the signalling network. During the disruption, only partial services were run between Howrah Maidan-Sector V & Sector V-Sealdah, and full services resumed by 11:01 am.
Kolkata's Green Line Metro is Causing Inconvenience
As it was peak time, passengers faced inconvenience. Baishakhi Roy, a commuter from Howrah who works in Sector V, said the Green Line is now also facing daily problems like the Blue Line. She had to switch to a bus from Esplanade to reach Sealdah. Since its phased launch in February 2020, the Green Line has generally run smoothly without major breakdowns; however, technical issues began appearing less than a month after the full 16.6 km corridor between Sector V and Howrah Maidan became operational. The system is operated by communication-based train control (CBTC), which offers advanced automatic train protection and the potential for driverless operation. Moreover, trials are ongoing for its most advanced mode.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the last stretch between Esplanade and Sealdah on August 22, completing the line. However, the CBTC system itself is challenging, as only three groups of engineers have been trained so far, resulting in delays in detection if any issues arise.
