Karnataka Heatwave: Bengaluru Sees Record-Breaking Temperatures

Bengaluru recently experienced its hottest day since 2016, with temperatures reaching 37.2°C. A heatwave warning is in effect across Karnataka, with relief expected from forecasted light rainfall.

Bengaluru, known for its pleasant climate, recently experienced a significant surge in temperatures, marking its hottest day since 2016. On April 4, 2024, the city recorded a temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius. This slight decrease was observed the next day, with temperatures dipping to 36.6 degrees Celsius. These figures represent some of the highest temperatures recorded in Bengaluru in the past few years, placing them as the second and fourth highest over eight and fifteen years, respectively.

This wave of heat is not isolated to Bengaluru alone. Several districts across Karnataka are currently under a heatwave warning, as stated by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). The KSNDMC's daily weather report highlights the ongoing and expected rise in temperatures across the state. Areas such as Bagalkote, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Koppal, and Gadag are likely to continue experiencing hot temperatures till at least Friday. Additionally, a gradual rise of two to three degrees Celsius is anticipated in Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Kolar, Hassan, Mandya, and Mysuru districts over the next five days.

However, there's a silver lining for the residents of Karnataka. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light rainfall in several districts, offering a much-needed break from the relentless heat. Starting April 6, districts like Dakshina Kannada, Bidar, Udupi, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Uttar Kannada, Bagalkote, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Ballari, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chamarajanagar, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, and Vijayanagara are expected to witness light rainfall. This change in weather is anticipated to last until April 9, providing residents with a respite from the heat.

The current climate conditions highlight the unpredictable nature of weather patterns and the importance of staying informed about weather forecasts. As Karnataka braves this period of extreme heat, the forecasted rainfall is eagerly awaited by its residents. It serves as a reminder of the ever-changing dynamics of weather and the need for preparedness among communities.
