Karnataka is all set to welcome a new milestone in infrastructure with the upcoming Sigandur Bridge, officially known as the Ambaragodlu-Kalasavalli Bridge. Once completed, this modern bridge will reduce travel time between Sagar and Sigandur by almost two hours. It will also be the longest inland bridge in the state and the first of its kind-an inland extradosed balanced cantilever cable-stayed bridge.

A Big Step in Karnataka's Development
This major project was started in 2018, when former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and MP BY Raghavendra launched it. The foundation stone was laid by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Built at a cost of Rs 456.6 crore, the bridge itself cost Rs 378.3 crore. It stretches 2.1 kilometres across the Sharavathi River in Sagar taluk.
The bridge has two lanes for vehicles and footpaths for pedestrians. It uses modern construction methods, like pile foundations and a balanced cantilever technique, with a 740-metre cable-stayed section. Retired NHAI engineer Peer Pasha said this is a big achievement in bridge design and construction in Karnataka.
Almost Ready to Open
Now, the bridge is close to being completed. Out of 604 pre-cast segments, only two are left to be fixed. The final touches are expected to be completed by the end of March. If everything goes as planned, the bridge will be ready for use by the end of May or the first week of June. The authorities are also trying to finish it quickly because the monsoon season is coming soon.
Connecting More Than Just Roads
The Sigandur Bridge is built on NH-369E and connects Avinagalli to Marakutika through Holebagilu, Kalasavalli, and Sigandur. It will also serve as an alternative route to NH-69. Right now, people travel by barges across the river, which can be slow, especially during busy times. The new bridge will offer a fast and easy way to travel. The barges will still be available, but they will be handed over to the tourism department for emergency or tourism purposes.
MP BY Raghavendra is planning to meet Nitin Gadkari to discuss the final steps before the bridge opening. The inauguration is expected to be a big event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi might join the event virtually, and Nitin Gadkari and other important leaders are likely to be present in Sagar.
Once opened, this bridge will bring huge benefits for people in the region. It will make travel easier, boost tourism, and show how Karnataka is moving forward with strong and smart development.
