Indian Railways will operate 763 special Puja trains both daily and weekly, completing about 10,782 trips to handle the huge rise in ridership during the upcoming Diwali and Chhath festivals. These special trains are being added to provide more travel options to people going home for celebrations, officials said. Some

trains have already started running, while others will begin soon, depending on the demand.
Expansion of Railway Routes
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that running so many extra trains has been possible due to the expansion of railway line capacity on busy routes. He mentioned that the government is regularly approving the construction of new tracks to improve services. According to him, notifications have been issued for about 10,700 train services. Moreover, 150 trains, offering around 2,000 services, have been unreserved. With this, the total number of special services this year has crossed 12,000.
Railway Zones to Operate Trips This Festive Season
Data from the Railway Ministry shows that the Northern Railway zone will run the highest number of trips, 1,925 across 52 trains. The East Central Railway will follow with 1,324 journeys on 74 trains. These zones cover regions including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, where festive travel is high. The Central Railway in Mumbai will run 68 trains for 1,299 trips. South Central Railway will operate 1,015 trips, North Western Railway 942 trips, and Western Railway 1,198 trips.
