Setting sail across the sparkling waters of the Arabian Sea, the brand-new high-speed ferry service between Lakshadweep and Mangaluru brings exciting changes to how people travel. This big step not only makes it easier for tourists and locals to get around but also opens up new possibilities for adventure and discovery. Let's take a closer look at what this ferry service is all about and how it's making life more convenient for everyone.

Background:
Lakshadweep, a group of stunning islands in the Arabian Sea, is famous for its beautiful beaches, coral reefs, and diverse marine life. Until recently, traveling between Lakshadweep and the mainland, especially Kerala, meant long and tiring journeys by sea.
The High-Speed Ferry Service:
On May 3, 2024, the high-speed vessel "Parali" successfully carried 160 passengers from Lakshadweep Islands to the Mangaluru old port. What used to be a 13-hour journey now takes just 7 hours with this new ferry service, cutting travel time significantly.
Passenger Experience:
Travelers who boarded the HSC Parali for the first time found it to be a refreshing experience. Not only does the new vessel offer high-speed travel, but it's also smoother compared to the earlier ones, which were makeshift arrangements on cargo carriers.
Tourism Development:
The Lakshadweep Islands Tourism Development Authority (LITDA), under the Central Tourism Ministry, plans to launch the Mangalore-Lakshadweep tourist liner service after a few trial runs. They've upgraded the receiving point in Kadmatt, the nearest port of arrival from the mainland, to cater to tourists.
Benefits and Significance:
The improved connectivity benefits various types of tourism, including eco-tourism in the Western Ghats, educational tourism to learn about Lakshadweep's culture and ecology, and health and recreation tourism to enjoy its beaches and water sports. This enhanced connectivity also strengthens the ties between Lakshadweep and the mainland. Travelers can now journey to Lakshadweep aboard this ship for Rs 5,000 per person, with a travel duration of under 14 hours.
About Lakshadweep:
Lakshadweep consists of 36 islands spread over 32 sq km of land surrounded by a 4,200 sq km lagoon. Its rich marine life, fragile ecosystem, and commitment to eco-tourism make it a breathtaking tropical paradise.
