Bhoomi Puja Celebration for Gurugram Metro Corridor

On 5 September, Nayab Singh Saini, the Chief Minister of Haryana, and Manohar Lal, the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, performed Bhumi Puja for laying the foundation of the Gurugram Metro Corridor. This 28.5 km metro corridor will link Millennium City Centre on the Yellow Line with the Rapid Metro at Cyber City, moving through the old areas of Gurugram. The plan will be executed in two phases, Phase 1 and Phase 2, covering 15.5 km and 13 km by the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited. Chander Shekhar Khare, the Managing Director of GMRL, added that the civil work for Phase 2 Metro will begin after Phase 1. This corridor will have a total of 27 metro stations before linking Rapid Metro, connecting major hubs, like Shubhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar Phases 4, 5, 6, Basai Village, Palam Vihar Extension, etc. It will also include a metro station at Sector 101, falling under the 1.85 km spur track from Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway, and a new metro depot at Hero Honda Chowk.

Future Metro Developments to be Undertaken

It is a matter of content for the citizens, as the Gurugram metro expansion took almost 15 years to be implemented after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation was extended to Gurugram in 2010, and the introduction of the 12 km Rapid Metro in November 2013. Even CM Saini expressed joy in fulfilling a long-awaited dream while addressing a public meeting at Gurugram University with the Union Minister. He also shared his plans for future metro developments in the state, including Rejangla Chowk-Dwarka Sector 21, Sector-56 Panchgaon, and the Namo Metro Corridors.
CM Saini acknowledged the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for better metro services. The metro services, once available for 248 km in 5 cities, led to a growing network of 1066 km across 24 cities, 970 km underway. He also assured that India will be a leading country with the best metro services once the project is completed. Union Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal, announced that the Urban Ministry will provide 10000 buses across the country, including 450 for Haryana and 100 for Gurugram, at discounted rates for easy accessibility to metro stations through an app-based system to allow fare payments and reduce parking issues.
Additionally, the Union Minister of State for Planning and Statistics and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh requested the Union Cabinet last month to approve the implementation of the Regional Rapid Transit System route from Delhi-Gurugram-Rewari to Shahjahanpur in Rajasthan. Mr. Inderjit Singh also addressed the incomplete project at the terminal stage of the Delhi Meerut Transit System in a letter to the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, which needs quick acceleration. He also pointed out the fact that Gurugram contributes 60% of revenue to the State treasury as it holds a high position in Goods & Services Tax and Income Tax.
