Chief Minister Rekha Gupta issued a strong warning to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday, December 5, 2025, for failing to follow dust-control rules at metro construction sites. She made it clear that construction work should never create pollution and instructed the agency to use effective dust-control methods

at all project locations strictly. Her office shared these directions in an official note.
Delhi Chief Minister's Warning
The Chief Minister also asked DMRC to regularly clean and remove garbage collected under elevated metro lines, saying that the organisation must maintain hygiene around its infrastructure. These instructions were given during a high-level review meeting attended by DMRC officials, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, and senior officers from multiple Delhi Government departments.
During the meeting, Ms. Gupta expressed dissatisfaction over repeated public complaints that many metro construction sites are generating heavy dust and that proper mitigation steps like covering materials or sprinkling water are not being followed. She added that citizens have also reported poor road and footpath conditions even after construction work is finished, creating dust and blocking traffic.
Ms. Gupta mentioned that she has personally seen piles of garbage lying under elevated metro tracks, which shows that cleanliness is being neglected. She also criticised the Metro for focusing more on advertisements on its elevated structures instead of maintaining a clean environment. She stressed that a respected organisation like DMRC should set an example in environmental protection rather than add to pollution.
Although DMRC officials described the steps they are taking, the Chief Minister directed them to use modern techniques to control dust. She insisted that construction materials must be fully covered, water should be sprinkled regularly, and no soil or debris should spill on the roads.
The CM reminded all departments that the government is working aggressively to fight pollution and warned that she will soon inspect metro sites herself. She said that if she finds any negligence, whether by DMRC, the Municipal Corporation, PWD, or any other agency, strict action will be taken.
