The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) recently approved a plan to build 8 kilometres of elevated walkways under the new Outer Ring Road (ORR) Metro line. These walkways are meant to help people walk safely between metro stations and nearby tech parks, offices, and workplaces along the ORR corridor, which

is one of the busiest parts of the city.
How will Elevated Walkways be Built?
These paths would be raised above the ground and built beneath the elevated metro tracks so that commuters don't have to walk on busy roads. This is expected to make it easier for many employees, especially those working in the rapidly growing tech and office hubs around ORR, to reach metro stations without crossing heavy traffic.
Resolving Funding Issue
However, even though the idea has been approved, one problem remains, as no clear decision has been made on how to pay for these walkways. The funding issue is unresolved, so construction cannot start until this is settled. Responsibility for arranging the money now lies jointly with the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) and the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA), which represents businesses along the ORR.
Construction to Begin
Officials hope that once funding is finalised and construction begins, the walkways will improve last-mile connectivity, the final short distance commuters walk after leaving the metro, making the metro system more convenient and pleasant to use. Good pedestrian access is necessary in Bengaluru, where many people travel daily to offices and tech parks and struggle with heavy traffic and a lack of safe walking routes.
