With Ganeshotsav 2026 approaching, railway authorities are preparing for a sharp rise in passenger demand. Central Railway has announced 262 special train services to manage the festive rush and provide additional travel options for passengers heading towards the Konkan region. The special services will begin from September 9, ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14.

Of the 262 services, 200 will be reserved special trains, while 62 will operate as unreserved services. The additional trains are expected to benefit passengers travelling from Nagpur, Mumbai, Pune and other parts of Maharashtra towards popular destinations in the Konkan region.
Among the destinations covered by these special services, Sawantwadi Road will receive the highest number of trains. A total of 112 services will operate towards Sawantwadi Road. Ratnagiri will have 64 special services, while 24 services will operate towards Madgaon.
The large number of additional trains has been planned because of the strong demand during the Ganpati festival. Central Railway has already recorded 1,17,682 confirmed bookings for the 200 reserved special services, showing that many passengers have already made their travel plans.
Passengers who were unable to get reserved tickets will also have another option. The 62 unreserved special services are expected to help last-minute travellers during the busy festival period.
Special Arrangements in the Stations
Railway authorities are also preparing stations for increased passenger movement. Additional ticket counters, waiting areas and queue-management arrangements will be introduced at busy stations. Extra Railway Protection Force personnel and ticket-checking staff will also be deployed to manage crowds.
Advisory for Passengers
Passengers travelling during the Ganpati festival have been advised to reach the railway station at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of their train. This will help them avoid delays caused by heavy crowds and complete boarding comfortably.
The additional services are expected to provide some relief to passengers travelling to the Konkan region during one of Maharashtra's busiest festive travel periods.
