From September 4, Bengaluru will restrict vehicles on five elevated corridors; Electronic City follows September 11. The affected stretches are BGS (Sirsi Circle), Peenya, and the Double‑Decker. On Airport Road, the ban covers Sanjeevnagar Cross to Vidyashilp Junction. Bikes and autos are barred on the Airport Road and Electronic City corridors. Goods vehicles face peak‑hour windows; heavy trucks are off the Double‑Decker.
Peenya prohibits passenger and goods autorickshaws round the clock. Heavy and medium goods vehicles face 7–11 am and 4–10 pm curbs. BGS bans heavy trucks and limits lighter goods vehicles during those windows. The Double‑Decker excludes heavy trucks entirely. Airport Road bars two‑wheelers and autos, and restricts goods 6 am to 10 pm. Electronic City applies the same, but from September 11.

“The key factors that were considered while taking decisions on restrictions were road safety, road design and width of the flyover, reducing the severity of the impact of accidents, mitigating traffic congestion caused by vehicle breakdowns, easing congestion occurring at the entry and exit points of flyovers, traffic management during emergencies, safety of pedestrians and two‑wheeler riders and a comprehensive road safety approach.”
Detours and best weekend exit windows: Airport Road and E‑City elevated
Planning Mysuru or Coorg trips, avoid BGS during the restricted windows. Use NICE Road from Hosur or Kanakapura entries to reach Mysuru Road faster. For Chikkamagaluru, prefer NICE to Tumakuru Road, or Peenya service roads. Start before 6:30 am or after 11 am to dodge morning curbs. Evening getaways work best after 8 pm. Expect slower merges near toll and entry controls.
Commuter options: Metro park‑and‑ride and Vayu Vajra
Skip the elevated corridors by parking at a Namma Metro station and switching to rail. BMRCL lists paid parking at selected stations; confirm availability before you drive. For flights, BMTC’s Vayu Vajra runs round‑the‑clock on multiple airport routes. Check the KIAS portal for live timetables, including services like KIA‑8 and KIA‑9H. These choices reduce transfer risk under the new curbs.
