The Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has requested the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to consider opening parts of the 23 km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line in phases rather than waiting until March next year for the full line to be ready. In a letter to PMRDA commissioner Yogesh

Mhase, FITE suggested that the Hinjewadi Phase 3 to Baner section (around 13 km) could be opened earlier. The letter, signed by FITE Maharashtra president Pavanjit Mane and secretary Prashant Pandit, states that this stretch is almost complete and is undergoing testing, as commuters urgently need relief from daily traffic problems and poor road conditions.

FITE noted that the government's current plan is to inaugurate the entire line at once. While this ensures completeness, it would also delay benefits for IT employees who commute between Hinjewadi and Baner every day. The Baner IT Park area alone has around 1.5 to 2 lakh employees within a short radius, apart from many residents in Baner and Balewadi who travel to Hinjewadi's IT hubs in phases 1, 2, and 3.
Although FITE acknowledged that the Prime Minister may prefer inaugurating the entire corridor together, they argued that completed sections should not remain idle for ceremonial reasons. They suggested an early opening around Diwali or Christmas as a meaningful step for IT workers. PMRDA officials stated they aim to complete construction and trial runs by year-end, but the official launch is planned for March.
