The opening of the Yellow Line of Namma Metro, connecting R.V. Road and Bommasandra, has significantly eased traffic congestion in south Bengaluru. According to a study by Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), traffic during weekday morning peak hours has decreased by 38%, evening peak hours by 37%, and there is a

17% drop during non-peak hours on weekdays. The stretch has seen a 30.6% reduction, with 37.5% during peak times currently.
Namma Metro's Yellow Line Impacting Traffic Congestion on Weekends
The impact is even greater on weekends, and according to a study, congestion was reduced by 69% during morning peak hours, 39% in the evenings, and 58% during non-peak hours. The analysis of data recorded from the Actionable Intelligence for Sustainable Traffic Management (ASTraM) system, comparing traffic patterns from August 11-31 with earlier records. Police officers say the improvement has made traffic management much easier, especially near smaller connecting roads, which were overcrowded from major junctions. The Yellow Line has released pressure on Hosur Main Road, Madiwala, and key bottlenecks like Silk Board, BTM Circle, Hosa Road, and Electronics City.
Namma Metro's Yellow Line Benefitting Commuters
It has become easier for commuters to commute by metro. Anusha M., who earlier traveled from BTM Layout to Electronics City by scooter, now prefers the metro, calling it convenient and faster. Many two-wheeler riders have shifted to the metro; however, some complain of overcrowding due to fewer trains.
The Yellow Line, inaugurated on August 10, started its services with only three trains, with long gaps of over 25 minutes. On September 10, a fourth train was added, reducing the wait to 19 minutes. Officials say more trains will soon be introduced, further reducing congestion and improving travel for commuters.
