The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, has directed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and its partner to finish construction of the remaining 13 stations on the 23-km-long Metro Line 3 (from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar) by March 2026. So far, only 10 of the planned stations have been

completed. PMRDA's commissioner, Yogesh Mhase, stated that about 90 % of the work on the line is done, and trial runs are already underway on several stretches.
Partial Opening
Although the plan is to open the full corridor at once, the IT-industry body Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has requested a partial opening, especially the Hinjewadi to Baner section, so that thousands of daily commuters in the tech-hub corridor can benefit early.
PMRDA officials, however, have indicated that a phased launch may not be feasible because of pending connectors and other dependencies. During his review of key infrastructure projects in Mumbai, Pune, and Thane, Fadnavis also instructed the revenue department to accelerate the transfer of a 5-acre land parcel in Yerwada, which is part of the project's funding plan.
Approval of Two Metro Stations
Beyond this line, the state government approved two new Metro extensions in the Pune region, Hadapsar to Loni Kalbhor, and Hadapsar Bus Depot to Saswad Road, totalling 16 km with 14 elevated stations, at an estimated cost of approx. ₹5,704 crore. These will be implemented by Maha Metro, and discussions are underway to potentially extend them further to Purandar airport via a tunnel.
Fadnavis also asked officials to start land acquisition for another corridor (Kharadi-Hadapsar-Swargate-Khadakwasla) and plan for integration with other modes of transport, including parking facilities. Furthermore, he suggested exploring six-bogie trains instead of the current three-bogie ones to manage growing passenger numbers.
