Delhi To Kolkata In Just 17 Hours By Varanasi-Kolkata Greenfield Expressway

Expecting a flight-like experience from Delhi to Kolkata? Well, the upcoming Varanasi-Kolkata greenfield expressway is promising such a thing for you by reducing Delhi to Kolkata travel time to 17 hours.

In the future, it might only take 17 hours to travel on the road from Delhi to Kolkata. This will be possible because of the projected Varanasi-Kolkata greenfield expressway, also called the Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata Expressway. With this, the existing 26-hour travel will be shortened by 9 hours.

The Varanasi-Kolkata expressway has received official approval and is anticipated to be finished in 2026. The plan has been approved to run six lanes and is a part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana (BMP) program. The expressway project is expected to cost a total of INR 28,500 crore. The journey time will be cut in half, to 6-7 hours, and the distance will be reduced from 690km to 610km.

Varanasi-Kolkata expressway

Starting Point:

A thorough project report is still awaited despite the fact that initial land demarcation has already been completed. Land acquisition in Bihar for an 80 km segment between Tilouthu and Imamganj started in January 2022.

The majority of traffic between Varanasi and Kolkata now travels along NH-19. The one of its kind, Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway way will start at the Varanasi Ring Road and connect with NH-16 close to Uluberia. Geographically, the former is in Chandauli district and the latter in Howrah district.
