Train services on the Blue Line of the Kolkata Metro were partly affected for nearly one hour on Wednesday morning due to a signalling issue at Dakshineswar station. The problem occurred during the early hours of operation and caused a temporary disruption to regular services.

Fault in Signalling System
Metro officials said that the fault in the local signalling system was noticed at around 7.30 am, a busy time when many people travel to offices and schools. As soon as the issue was detected, technical staff and engineers were sent to the Dakshineswar station to check and repair the system. The problem was handled as a safety measure to ensure smooth and secure train operations.
Kolkata's Blue Line Disruption
Because of the signalling problem, metro trains could not run on the entire Blue Line. During this period, both Up and Down services were limited to operating only between Shahid Khudiram and Baranagar stations. Train movement between Baranagar and Dakshineswar was completely stopped until the issue was resolved.
Metro authorities confirmed that the repairs were completed quickly and that full services on the entire route resumed at 8.46 am. Once the signalling system was restored, trains began running normally again across all stations on the Blue Line.
Disruption Caused Inconvenience
The temporary disruption caused inconvenience to many commuters, especially office workers, students, and daily passengers who rely on the metro during morning hours. Some passengers were forced to use road transport such as buses, autos, or taxis, while others had to wait at stations affected by the service suspension.
Although the disruption lasted less than an hour, it highlighted how technical problems can impact daily travel for thousands of people. Metro officials assured passengers that safety checks and quick response by engineers helped restore services as soon as possible and minimise further delays.
