The much-awaited Blue Line of Namma Metro, connecting the Outer Ring Road to the airport, is set to be ready by December 2027. It is divided into two parts: Phase 2A from the Central Silk Board to K.R. Pura, and Phase 2B from K.R. Pura to the Kempegowda International Airport.

Bangaluru Namma Metro's Blue Line Phase Details
BMRCL announced that the Blue Line will cover 58.19 km, linking Silk Board in the south to the airport in the north through K.R. Pura. Phase 2A spans 19.75 km, while Phase 2B, the airport link, stretches 38.44 km. As of June 2025, 52.5% of the work is completed, with faster progress now on the K.R. Pura-Airport stretch after a nine-month pause in 2023 due to an accident.
Two metro stations are forthcoming inside the airport, designed and developed by BIAL. The Airport City station will be perched on the ground, while the Airport Terminal station will be partially underground, approximately 7-8 metres deep. The Blue Line will also run driverless trains with luggage racks and advanced safety features for air passengers.
The Blue Line project started almost ten years ago, with approvals for Phase 2A and the Airport Line coming between 2016 and 2019. Together, both phases are estimated to cost ₹14,788 crore. Recently, BMRCL's new MD J. Ravishankar went on an inspection of works on the airport stretch between Kia and Hebbal, including viaducts, stations, depots, and key crossings. The BMRCL officials also stated that after completion, the 58.19-km Blue Line Metro will directly connect Bengaluru's south, southeastern, eastern, and northern areas to the airport, boosting citywide connectivity.
