Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Unveils New Order to Clear Construction Debris for Safer Roads

that leftover materials and barricades near metro sites, especially on the Outer Ring Road, were obstructing the smooth flow of traffic in the city.

Necessary Guidelines to be Followed

• All wastes, leftover materials, temporary barricades, and debris must be removed immediately upon completion of the work.
• Contractors are instructed to restore roads and footpaths to their original width and condition without delay.
• Site engineers and inspectors will check the work and certify that roads are properly restored.
• Roads must be free from obstructions, with proper drainage, pavement levels, and clear signage to prevent waterlogging and ensure safety.
• Any potholes created during construction must be repaired immediately.
• Debris lying on road medians or under viaducts should also be cleared quickly.

Additional Guidelines to be Followed

BMRCL has also highlighted the importance of traffic management during both construction and clearance. Barricades, cones, and signage should be placed while work is going on and removed immediately after completion. If traffic diversions are required, prior notice should be given to the traffic police. Wherever possible, work should be carried out during non-peak hours to avoid major inconvenience. Exceptions will be allowed only in unavoidable cases, such as bad weather conditions or a shortage of resources. In such situations, contractors must get written approval and provide a clear timeline for restoring the site.

The new order came into effect on September 20 and will be strictly monitored and enforced through inspections by BMRCL engineers-in-charge to make sure the rules are followed properly.
