After a long wait, the city of Bengaluru has finally received its first showers of the season, bringing a wave of joy to its residents. The rain, which arrived on the outskirts of the city on Friday, was celebrated by citizens who shared videos of the downpour and gusty winds on social media platforms. The arrival of the rain brings hope for relief from the scorching heat, with more thundershowers forecasted for both the city and its outskirts on Saturday evening.

Following a prolonged dry spell of 147 days, the rainfall marks a welcome change in the weather for Bengaluru. While the intensity varied across different parts of the city, some areas experienced light showers measuring between 8-10mm. Despite the relatively modest rainfall, the showers have brought much-needed relief to the city, which had been suffering from the oppressive heat.
According to the IMD, the weather in Bengaluru is expected to be partly cloudy, with the possibility of rain or thundershowers towards Saturday evening. The maximum temperature is forecasted to be around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 23 degrees Celsius for the next 48 hours.
Although the rain gauges of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) did not report any rainfall, those operated by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) in the outskirts recorded light rain until 8:30 pm on Friday. Kengeri saw 1mm of rainfall, while areas like Cholanayakanahalli, Chunchukuppe, and Sulikere in Bengaluru North received 9mm each. In Bengaluru South, Sulenahalli recorded 8mm of rain.
The much-awaited rainfall has brought a sense of relief and optimism to the residents of Bengaluru, signaling the onset of the monsoon season and a break from the sweltering heat. As the city prepares to embrace more showers in the coming days, citizens are looking forward to cooler temperatures and a respite from the prolonged dry spell.
