The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that from April to June 2024, extreme heat will affect many parts of India. Most states will experience higher-than-normal temperatures during this time. Heatwaves are expected to last longer than usual, lasting from four to eight days each summer. The peak of the heat is expected in May and June, especially in Central India.

This warning matches the recent statement from the United Nations' World Meteorological Organization, which predicts abnormally high temperatures in 2024 after previous years of record-breaking heat. Several extreme weather events have occurred in India, prompting state governments to make preparations. Bihar experienced intense heat on Thursday, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in nine districts, according to the IMD.
Relief from Scorching Heat in Karnataka
In Karnataka, residents tired of the scorching heat and relentless sunshine may soon find relief, as the weather department forecasts rainfall across the state in the coming days. The long-awaited break from the sweltering heat seems imminent, with promising predictions of rainfall over the next few days. Rain clouds are expected to appear in various districts, bringing relief to residents struggling with high temperatures. Starting from April 6, several districts including Dakshina Kannada, Bidar, Kalaburgi, Kodagu, Mandya, and Mysore may experience moderate rain.

Expected Rainfall in Specific Districts
March 2024 saw exceptionally dry weather, with no rainfall recorded in Bengaluru. The absence of rain led to high temperatures, reaching 36.6 degrees Celsius on March 31st, the highest since 2019. The dry spell is expected to continue in North Inland and South Inland districts, with temperatures ranging between 35 to 36 degrees Celsius over the next two weeks. However, Bengaluru, Hassan, and Tumkur districts are expected to receive rainfall on April 7, providing relief from the scorching sun. April 9 holds promise as well, with rain predicted in 18 districts, including Karwali and most of the northern interior districts.
Bengaluru residents, enduring hot temperatures day and night for the past month, may finally find relief after Ugadi, as the IMD suggests the possibility of 'light to moderate' rainfall in the city.
